eBay UK have announced that it is to launch one of the biggest advertising campaigns
in its 11 year history. In the run up to Christmas eBay looks set to try and bulk up its presence in an ever increasingly
competitive market.
Double page print ads will appear in Vogue, OK!, Look, Grazia, Stylist, Elle and Red, from the end of September.
In addition billboard advertising across several prominent locations in the UK will aim to deliver the message
that shoppers can expect big savings by using the online marketplace, rather than the high street.
Angus McCarey, director of eBay Enterprise, said the site has seen a 25% increase in the number of shoppers opting
to buy fashion items over the last year.
"The Fashion Outlet is our fastest growing sales channel and this advertising assault reflects our growing position as
a leading fashion destination. There is huge potential for growth in the online fashion market, as consumers seek out greater choice and value," he added.
"We know that consumers are increasingly looking for a range of high-quality high street goods at low prices, and eBay's Fashion Outlet provides them with the ability to purchase goods from the brands they love."
The news of a massive advertising campaign follows eBay's recent report of a massive jump in the number of wealthy shoppers turning to buying clothes from its eBay Outlet
as a way of keeping up appearances.
Demand for high-quality handbags, black dresses, coats and shoes has soared by more than 300 per cent.
eBay Fashion Outlet, the fashion section of the auction site, is used by big-name clothing and retailers
such as Karen Millen, Ted Baker, House of Fraser, Dune and more to clear stock swiftly at low prices.
The new advertising campaign will follow the launches of online shops from high street retailers H&M and Zara which are
expected to go live later this month.
