Hi jonswilliam,
That's a very good topic to bring up, far too many new start-ups are set up by disgruntled powersellers who know absolutely nothing about web-design, they just rush out and buy the cheapest off the shelf package and expect to take on the big boys with their £110 bit of 'ready to run' software. That just leaves us with hundreds of identical auction websites that are mirror images of each other, and all probably going nowhere.
My advice to you is not to follow the crowd, spend some time doing research, there are lots of middle of the road packages out there with far more adaptability and functionality, decide what's important to you and list the pro's and con's for each package, consider things like the Payment Gateways, if you intend to have an international site consider the currency conversion, for example: the Rainworx package has an option for users to display their chosen currency. I would also add that if you have a backgroung in web-design and your budget will allow it, get the source code version (unencrypted) that will give you by far and away the best chance of making your site look unique, and function exactly as you wish, it will be worth the extra cost up-front in the long run.
Netauctionhelps Profusion package looks pretty good, and Wensy seems to be doing pretty well on Rainworx.
Good luck, and remember.. don't follow the crowd.. do your research.. |
